On Monday night the group chose to see Blood Diamond, a film about the civil unrest in Sierra Leone during 1994. There were many instances in which I was able to connect the events in the movie to our topic, visual art. For example, one of the main characters was a photojurnalist and she talked about her frustration of not being able to publish pictures that told the true story of what was really going on in the area (about how diamonds purchased in the U.S. were a result of slavery, death, and suffering for the people of Sierra Leone)... because the images might offend readers.
